In the era of artificial intelligence, a new paradigm for liberal arts education in Chinese higher education was proposed. The lecture highlights the challenges and opportunities presented by artificial intelligence, emphasizing a shift from “learning knowledge” to “enhancing ability.” The approach of Beijing Normal-Hong Kong Baptist University (BNBU) focuses on cultivating students’ critical thinking, innovation, cultural literacy, teamwork, and moral growth. The university aims to become a global leader in AI-integrated liberal arts education, fostering innovative talents with a strong humanistic foundation and scientific expertise. BNBU’s strategy includes strengthening science and engineering disciplines, deepening international collaborations, designing interdisciplinary programs, and integrating AI into teaching and learning. HUANG Yu, Chair Professor
Associate Vice President (Teaching and Learning), Dean of Graduate School
Professor Huang received a BA degree in Journalism and an MA in Communication Studies from Renmin University of China and his PhD from the University of Westminster, UK, in 1993. Professor Huang joined the Hong Kong Baptist University in 1994 as Lecturer and has since been promoted to Chair Professor. He has demonstrated exceptional leadership in education. He had taken up various management roles in HKBU, including Executive Associate Dean of Graduate School between 2011 and 2013, Dean of the School of Communication during 2013-2022, and Associate Vice-President from 2014 to 2022.Professor Huang has made prolific contributions to scholarship in the fields of Journalism, Media and Communication. He has authored over 100 articles published in prestigious journals and more than 10 scholarly books in both English and Chinese in the field of his expertise. Professor Huang has further enriched the scholarly landscape through editorial roles. Recognizing his exceptional contributions to the professional field, the Chinese Communication Association honoured him with the Lifetime Achievement Award in May 2023.
