The eleventh session of the Teaching and Learning Forum (Global Version), held on April 22, prominently featured Dr. Bairbre Redmond, Full Emeritus Professor at University College Dublin. Her presentation highlighted the varying challenges and innovations in teaching and learning as experienced across the U21's 29 world-class universities. Drawing from diverse Centers for Teaching and Learning within the U21 network, the session provided insights into the educational strategies and innovations being developed, and how these could be adapted and applied globally.

 

A key theme of the talk was the exploration of generative AI’s (GAI) impact on education, particularly in assessments and feedback. Prof. Redmond facilitated a dialogue on balancing the benefits and vulnerabilities associated with GAI, and introduced several U21 initiatives, offering practical resources for faculty.

The discussion extended to the adaptation of educational systems in the post-pandemic era, emphasizing the growing need for flexible learning options to accommodate diverse student needs. Prof. Redmond also debated the increasing necessity for educational institutions to prepare graduates for a rapidly changing, often unpredictable global job market. The session wrapped up with a discussion on the evolving role of micro-credentials in higher education, raising awareness of their potential impact on higher education.
